Will not accept CAA, NRC, Uniform Civil Code, says Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she will not allow implementation of the CAA, NRC, and the Uniform Civil Code in West Bengal.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared on Thursday that she would block the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and Uniform Civil Code in the state.

Speaking at a gathering in Kolkata for Eid-ul-Fitr, she cautioned against potential attempts to incite riots during elections and urged attendees to remain vigilant. Banerjee emphasized the importance of unity to resist external threats.

"We will not accept the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, National Register of Citizens, and Uniform Civil Code. If we remain united, nobody will be able to harm us," Banerjee asserted at the Red Road gathering. She reiterated that her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), is primarily opposed to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"We will decide about the INDIA bloc later. But in Bengal, please see that no vote goes to any other party," the TMC supremo said.

Banerjee also criticized the BJP-led central government for allegedly misusing central probe agencies against opposition parties. Accompanying her at the Eid event was TMC national general secretary and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee.
