UP, Uttarakhand to take back cases as part of settlement on assets, mutual interests

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and his Uttarakhand counterpart Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday reached a consensus on asset distribution and other pending issues between the two states. As part of the agreement, the two states have decided to withdraw cases against each other.
Dhami was in Lucknow where he also visited the BJP headquarters. Uttarakhand was carved out of UP in November 2000, but the latter continues to have ownership of several properties, including land and canals, in the Himalayan state. Both UP and Uttarakhand go to polls early next year.

Speaking to media, Dhami said, "UP is like a big brother to Uttarakhand. My high school and intermediate certificates carry Uttar Pradesh as the state...the issues were not really a matter of conflict but I am grateful that he (Yogi) showed heart."
Apart from court cases, issues of mutual interest, particularly in the field of water resources, common boundary and energy, were discussed by the two CMs.

Listing out the decisions taken, Dhami said two barrages in Uttarakhand - Banwas and Kiccha - will be rebuilt by the UP irrigation department. The transport corporation of the state will be paid '205 crore by UP, assets belonging to the housing department will be divided equally between the two states, Haridwar's Alaknanda Hotel will be transferred to Uttarakhand by next month and CM Yogi will also hold a program there to mark the occasion.

The UP government has also given nod for water sports at Upper Ganges Canal in Roorkee.
