Accenture consultants set to be data-backed storytellers

Accenture is deploying an Artificial Intelligence (AI) model that will make powerpoint presentations for its army of consultants redundant.

The company will have all of its consultants in the next two years adopt the new model of data-focused storytelling that is built on data, machine learning models and visualisation for specific sectors and industries to pitch to a client and win business, according to a senior company executive.

Traditionally, consultants who engage with chief executives of companies make their pitches using powerpoint presentations, drawing up their expertise and experience to intuitively win deals. Accenture’s Applied Intelligence team is turning this around.

A specialised team of data scientists, machine learning and visualisation experts, based in India help the company’s consultants to visually rich data backed story and the strategies they need to adopt for their business.

They can pull in data for each sector and industry, compare benchmarks and overlaying a client’s data, simulate models and projections for a period of time.

“In the next two years, we’re going to invest and make sure that everybody in Accenture actually uses this new way of discussing their plans,” said Sanjeev Vohra, head of applied intelligence for Accenture.

“We have data plus what I call data storytelling. Data, algorithm and storytelling. We are bundling this data inside for each specific industry and specific function, so that consultants can take it to the market,” he added. Accenture earns over half its revenue from consulting, helping chief executives of global corporations to decide on the technology strategy for their companies.
