NEW DELHI: Benchmark indices snapped a four-day losing run and closed in the green on Friday, lifted by buying in pharmaceuticals stocks, along with realty and NBFC counters. Gains were capped by selling pressure seen in metal stocks.
Midcap and smallcap stocks remained in demand. Banking stocks gained even as the RBI in its Financial Stability Report indicated that lenders' gross NPA percentage could climb to a baseline of 9.8 per cent by March 2022.
The 30-share pack Sensex rose 166.07 points or 0.32 per cent to close at 52,484.67. Its broader peer NSE Nifty added 42.20 points or 0.27 per cent to settle at 15,722.20.
“The rapid increase in Covid cases globally is having an effect on the international market. On the global front, bourses are closely awaiting the release of the US job data to take clues on the US Fed’s monetary policy stance," Vinod Nair, Head Of Research at Geojit Financial Services.
