India's second-largest IT services exporter, Infosys, has sounded a cautious note on global macroeconomic recovery, describing the rebound in technology spending as significantly more uneven than initially anticipated. Chief Executive Officer Salil Parekh noted that while artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives continue to drive new interest, traditional IT services are grappling with productivity compressions as global clients aggressively tighten their budgets.
The revised guidance and cautious commentary from the leadership helm underscore the broader headwinds facing India's multi-billion-dollar IT sector. While digital transformation and generative AI adoption are creating pockets of high-growth revenue, legacy business lines are experiencing pricing pressures and deferred discretionary spending.
Despite these macro challenges, Infosys's ability to lock in $3.6 billion in large deals—with a strong component of net new business—demonstrates structural resilience and strong client retention. Investors and analysts will be closely monitoring how Indian tech giants navigate cost-optimization trends and accelerate AI monetization through the upcoming fiscal quarters.
