UP, MP, Rajasthan top list of those who missed 2nd dose

UP, MP and Rajasthan have maximum people who have missed the second dose of Covid-19 vaccines. According to statistics presented at the recent meeting of state health ministers, reviewed by ET, UP tops the list with 15.7 million people missing their second shot, followed by MP, at 11.9 million, and Rajasthan at 8.6 million. The top three states account for 35% of the total who have not taken the second dose within the prescribed interval. Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed concern at the meeting that over 103.4 million eligible beneficiaries across 17 states had not turned up for the scheduled second shot
The Centre has red-flagged the fact that the majority of people who missed the second shot were overdue by over 6 weeks. Almost 40% of the 103.4 million have gone over prescribed interval by 6 weeks and another 32% over 2 weeks. It has now asked states to generate line listings of beneficiaries from Cowin portal and send health and Asha workers door to door to ensure people take the second shot.
Those who skipped the second dose in big states are: Maharashtra (7.44m), Bihar (7.25m), TN (6.3m), Karnataka (5.4m), Gujarat (4.13m), Chhattisgarh (3.88m), Bengal (3.52m), Telangana (3.5m), Jharkhand (3.34m), Odisha (3.2m), Haryana (2.76m), Punjab (2.67m), Kerala (2.6m) and Assam (2.26m).
