Queen Elizabeth II dies, Britain Queen Elizabeth death latest news: Britain’s longest-serving monarch Queen Elizabeth died at her Scotland home in Balmoral on Thursday. Britain’s figurehead for over seven decades was 96. Her last public appearance was on Tuesday, September 6, when she welcomed the United Kingdom’s new prime minister Liz Truss to her home. In a somber statement, Buckingham Palace said that the Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral castle. Reports suggest that almost all of the British royalty including her son Prince Charles, heir apparent, were by her side in the last hour.
Following the Queen’s death on Thursday, her eldest son Charles became monarch of the United Kingdom and the head of state of 14 other realms including Australia, New Zealand, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.
As Prince Charles becomes king, the order of succession, as per an AP report, for Britain’s monarchy would be as follows:
British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis took to Twitter and said, “Her Majesty lived a life of service, of constancy which inspired and continues to inspire deep respect and affection. On this sad day, I remember what She gave to my country and to so many people around the world.”
With the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Joe Biden gained the distinction of being the 13th and final U.S. president to meet the woman whose reign spanned seven decades. According to an AP report, the queen, who died Thursday at her summer residence in Scotland at age 96, had met every American president since Dwight Eisenhower, with the exception of Lyndon Johnson, who did not visit Britain during his presidency.
