Top War Updates: Joe Biden calls Russian war ‘genocide’, Over 720 killed in Bucha and other Kyiv suburbs

Russia Ukraine War April 13th Latest News: US President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that Russia’s war in Ukraine “amounted to genocide.” He accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of trying to “wipe out the idea of even being a Ukrainian.” Biden’s comments drew praise from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who had encouraged Western leaders to use the term to describe Russia’s invasion of his country.

Meanwhile, over 720 individuals have been killed in Bucha and other Kyiv suburbs that were occupied by Russian forces and more than 200 are considered missing, Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said early Wednesday. Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk said that in Bucha alone, 403 bodies had been found, and the toll could rise. Ukraine’s prosecutor-general’s office said on Tuesday that it was also looking into events in the Brovary region. Authorities said that bodies of six civilians with gunshot wounds were found in the village of Shevchenkove.

 German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Tuesday said that his planned visit to Kyiv was not welcomed by Ukraine. Steinmeier had planned the visit with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda and the presidents of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia “to send a strong signal of European solidarity with Ukraine there,” reported Reuters.

– Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Wednesday mocked Moscow’s insistence that the war against his nation was going well. Zelenskyy asked how Vladimir Putin could have approved a plan that involved so many Russians dying. Putin, had on Tuesday said that Russia would achieve all of its “noble” aims and “rhythmically and calmly” continue what it calls a special operation.

– A top Treasury Department officialhas said that the United States and its allies are pushing ahead with sanctions that will force Vladimir Putin to spend Russia’s money propping up its economy rather than sustaining its “war machine” for the fight in Ukraine.

– A senior US defense official on Tuesday said that the Biden administration is preparing yet another diverse package of military support for Ukraine, possibly totaling $750 million. This may be announced in coming days.
